Product Demonstrations Increase Customer Interest (Action Wednesday/Physical Evidence)

Once a Day Marketing™ featured video blog: Product Demonstrations Work

Hello, I’m Jim Glover, That Branding Guy, for Once a Day Marketing. Today is Action Wednesday and we are looking at the importance of demonstrating your product or service.

We are a visual society.  We like to see and experience things first hand.

In my opinion, demonstrations are an effective way to create interest in your brand and drive sales.  For a physical product, you can hold demonstrations so customers can see your product being used.  For a service based product such as software, your sales force can focus on the features and capabilities of the software when they are demonstrating usage to potential customers.

Additionally, social media/inbound marketing can be leveraged to provide demonstrations.  When potential customers visit your website or smart phone app they are interested in what you have to sell.  This is a great chance to show off how well your product works.

For Action Wednesday, discover new ways to demonstrate your product or service.  You'll find it's a powerful way to enhance the customer experience and generate additional sales.

The Need for SEO (Digital Friday/Physical Evidence)

Once a Day Marketing™ featured video blog: SEO is the Yellow Brick Road

Hello, I’m Jim Glover, That Branding Guy, for Once a Day Marketing™.  Today is Digital Friday and we are going to take a quick look at the importance of search engine optimization or SEO.

Search engine optimization allows your company, brand or product to be quickly and easily found online through search engines such as Google and Yahoo!  It is essential that your SEO be maximized to ensure your products are being seen by potential customers.

Your competition and other companies are continuously staking out their online turf.  You have to ensure that you have a presence to compete with them.  If the search engines don't find you or you come up on page 7 of the search, potential customers won't find you either.

In today's world, a company that has an inferior product but great SEO will probably beat out a superior product with poor SEO because potential customers locate the inferior product more easily online.  If a brand wants to remain competitive it has to be visible through SEO.

For Digital Friday, evaluate your SEO.  If you aren't coming up page 1 on the search engine, work toward identifying solutions that will enhance your SEO to become a powerful tool to drive traffic to your brand.

Philadelphia's Brand Looked Grand (Recon Thursday/Physical Evidence)

Once a Day Marketing™ featured video blog: 7Ps of Marketing: Physical Evidence

Hello, I’m Jim Glover, That Branding Guy, for Once a Day Marketing™.  Today is Recon Thursday and we are reflecting back on our recent trip to Philadelphia, City of Brotherly Love.

I blog a lot about the 7Ps of Marketing and physical evidence, how the visual cues of your brand create favorable or unfavorable impressions in the minds of your customers.  In the case of Philadelphia, this city understands physical evidence and its sights far exceeded our expectations.

Everywhere we turned we were impressed with amazing architecture, tree-lined streets, bold artwork, colorful flags, and brilliant landscapes.

Philadelphia provided wonderful visuals cues to see and enjoy.  What visual cues are you creating for your customers?  We talk about making a great first impression and the right physical evidence sets the tone for the entire brand experience.

Step back and review your brand.  How is it looking?

Using Signage to Enhance Customer Experience (Recon Thursday/Physical Evidence)

Once a Day Marketing™ featured video blog: Enhancing Customer Experience Using Signage

Hello, I’m Jim Glover, That Branding Guy, for Once a Day Marketing™.  Today is Recon Thursday and we are looking at how business signage can dramatically enhance customer experience.

How many times have you been frustrated when a business doesn't have adequate signage to help you navigate their store or office?  It might start with no sign or a hard-to-read sign on the outside of the building.  Perhaps it is difficult to read the street number.  Or once inside, it's challenging to locate the products you want, find the cashier, or even seek out the restroom.

Signage is part of physical evidence or what your customers see about you brand.  Poor signage creates poor impressions and can diminish your brand.

Create a great brand experience by producing signage that's easy to read, well placed and informative.  You're customers will love you for it.

Once a Day Marketing™ featured video blog: Producing Winning Videos - Part 2

Hello, I’m Jim Glover, That Branding Guy, for Once a Day Marketing™.  Today is Digital Friday, and we are looking at generating more sales online with the use of video.

Having produced promotional videos for more than 25 years, I know that marketing videos work to inform customers about your product and motivate them to purchase your offering as well.

Once a Day Marketing™ has released several blogs about the importance of producing winning videos and distributing via the myriad of social media channels available today.  Now we want to introduce you to Cinsay, an innovative e-commerce company that combines point-of-sale and a transaction system within a single video player.

With the Cinsay approach, a potential customer can view your video and instantly buy your product as well.  That's like packing a mini-infomercial into every video you release.  Cinsay boasts a 7% to 9% conversion rate compared to a 2.5% search to click-through from traditional Google search.  Definitely something to look into.

How Do Customers See Your Product? (Smart Monday/Physical Evidence)

Hello, I’m Jim Glover, That Branding Guy, for Once a Day Marketing™.  Today is Smart Monday and I am sharing another one of the important 7Ps of Marketing, this time Physical Evidence.

You never get a second chance to make a first impression and this is certainly true when it comes to your product.  Physical evidence relates to what your customers see when they look at your product.  Another term for this is the visual cue.

Physical evidence can be the design of the product, color, shape, or packaging.  It also may include the display rack that holds the product or how the product is physically promoted in an advertisement.  What the customer actually sees creates an impression, good or bad, in his or her mind.  The more pleasing to the eye the more favorable the impression.

Take a close look at your product.  Evaluate what you see and consider how to improve that impression.

Building Social Media Content (Digital Friday/Physical Evidence)

Hello, I’m Jim Glover, That Branding Guy, for Once a Day Marketing.  Today is Digital Friday and we are discussing social media content for your business.

The concept that “Content is King” is more true now than ever.  We are looking at content management and what that means to your business.

The three major components of content management are creating, managing and publishing.  Creating is producing digital content; managing is a system to save and retrieve and publishing means making material available to your customers via social media.

Content management is importance and exciting because you can now share videos, photos, music and text that is immediately accessible by your audience from anywhere, anytime using PCs, smartphones and iPads.  Content is inexpensive to produce and once you create the content it resides in cyber space, delivering your marketing message, for perpetuity.

Creating a Good First Impression for Customers (Action Wednesday/Physical Evidence)

Hello, I’m Jim Glover, That Branding Guy, for Once a Day Marketing.  Today is Action Wednesday and we are looking at Physical Evidence – one of the 7Ps of Marketing.

The Physical Evidence of your business is the first thing customers encounter and interact with.  Look around your store, offices and even your website.  Consider the kind of impression their appearance is creating in the minds of your customers and the impact on your Brand.

Your task for Action Wednesday is to determine improvements you can implement.  Focus on those items that your customer sees first.  Items such as signage and cleanliness will go a long way in making a good (or bad) first impression on your customer.

Watch our Once a Day Marketing video to see examples and learn more about managing the impression you create: Keeping Up Appearances

I have been producing and directing film, video and interactive video my entire career.  To me, nothing is more powerful than a compelling video that shares the story of your product or service.  Today the costs to produce quality videos are extremely low while the distribution channels to share content with your prospects have never been easier to access or less expensive.

Enhance Your Visual Marketing: Free Online Design Tools (Digital Friday/Physical Evidence)

Hello, I’m Jim Glover, That Branding Guy, for Once a Day Marketing™.  Today is Digital Friday and we are going to take a look at a few websites that provide tools which enable you to create graphics like the pros.

Hubspot is a great online resource for businesses. They recently sent out a blog that identified 13 free online sites that can assist you with the visual aspect of your marketing.  I looked at those sites and I was very impressed so I thought I’d share a few of them with you today.

I am not a graphic artist but I know how important good graphics are.  Let’s take a look at five of these sites, each with a different focus, which you can use to prepare good graphics.  First is Design Seeds, this is a great site that displays pictures and color palettes in those pictures.  This will give you good ideas as to which colors go together when designing a website or a brochure.

Next is Image Color Picker.  On this site you are able to put up a picture, touch on it and the site will tell you the HEX and RGB values for any color you click on.  Sometimes it’s important to know exactly how to describe a color.

Google webfonts is another excellent tool.  This site allows you to identify a font for your website or which fonts complement each other if you are using more than one.

Iconfinder allows you to find its content with a key word search.  Perhaps you are looking for an icon such as a coin or a directional arrow; type that in and it will return all sorts of free graphics that are available for you to use.

Lastly we’ll talk about Skitch.  This is a tool that that allows you to grab a snapshot of your computer screen and then enables you to add annotations or notes and use it in any kind of presentation that you are preparing.  You are also able blur out sensitive content or anything you don’t want to share.

You’ve heard me talk a lot about the 7Ps of marketing and in particular physical evidence which includes those visual cues that allow your customers to get a great impression of your brand.  With the power of these free online tools there is no excuse not to enhance the visual aspect of your marketing.  I hope that you have some fun with these sites and start impressing your customers.

That concludes Digital Friday.  Do your best to join us next week.  If you need any branding or marketing support, please contact us to discuss an online or onsite service engagement. Future Trend: Mobile Visual Search-MVS (Digital Friday/Physical Evidence)

Hello, I’m Jim Glover, That Branding Guy, for Once a Day Marketing™.  Today is Digital Friday when I often like to introduce you to trends on the digital horizon.  The trend we will be discussing now is called Mobile Visual Search or MVS.

I am sure you are already familiar with Quick Response (QR) codes.  Those are the two dimensional, square black and white bar codes that you may see on an advertisement in a magazine or perhaps in a store window.  When scanned with a smart phone they will provide information or take you to the advertiser website.

QR codes are not a solution for all needs and there have been concerns with them.  It has been reported that unexpected items embedded in a QR code can forward users to the wrong place and/or result in security issues.

The new trend emerging in the market right now is something called MVS – Mobile Visual Search.  Using new technology, it allows a user to take a photo with their smart phone camera of practically anything and recognition software and other intelligence is utilized to send back interesting content related to item photographed.

There is also an image recognition application called Google Goggles that allows a smart phone user to snap a photo of a landmark or a book to obtain additional information.

In the future you will be able to leverage this technology to obtain information about practically anything.  It might be the face of a friend, the store front of a shop you are going into or a product that you like.  The applications will be sophisticated enough to take that input, whatever it may be, and provide remarkable content linked to whatever it is that you photographed.

As a marketing and branding guy I find this absolutely fascinating.  I think we are going to see huge amounts of MVS in the future.  I want you to begin thinking about it.  Is there an application that you can deploy to enable your customers to photograph your product to obtain all sorts of wonderful content about it?  It’s on the horizon, if you begin developing your strategy now you may get a jump on your competition.

That concludes Digital Friday.  Do your best to join us next week.  If you need any branding or marketing support, please contact us to discuss an online or onsite service engagement. You can always find that information at the end of this video.  I'm Jim Glover, That Branding Guy, for Once a Day Marketing™ and we will see you next time.

Add Pizzazz to Your PowerPoints (Action Wednesday/Physical Evidence)

Hello, I’m Jim Glover, That Branding Guy, for Once a Day Marketing™.  Today is Action Wednesday and we are talking about how to add pizzazz to the powerpoint presentations you use when you are speaking in a public setting.

Powerpoint presentations are still a very popular way to share information about your company, brand, products or services.  However, not all presentations are created equal.  I’ve seen many that are bland.  It’s very important from a branding perspective for you (or someone in your organization) to enhance your presentation because it is a visual queue and a reflection on your brand.

Here are a few ideas I recommend you consider when you are preparing your next set of powerpoint slides.  First take into account who your audience is and create compelling content that aligns with their interests.  Next, don’t fill your slides with text.  Express your topic in a few words, then share the rest of the information verbally.

Content should be visually appealing.  It’s not just about what you are saying but also what your audience is seeing.  If necessary, engage a graphic artist to create compelling images.  Consider enhancing the physical presentation through animation.  Powerpoint contains powerful tools that allow you to move objects around.  Don’t use this feature for the sake of moving those objects around, do use it to enhance a point you want to emphasize with the audience.

Lastly, integrate such things as audio, video or links to the internet.  All of these elements will make your presentation much more engaging for your audience.

Benefits associated with adding a little bit of pizzazz to your powerpoint include audience appreciation, positive reflection on your brand and creation of favorable impressions in the minds of the audience.  It may result in more speaking engagements if that is your goal.  You will also have a good deliverable to share on slideshare.net or other sites to create brand awareness, allow potential customers to find you and potentially obtain new leads.

That concludes Action Wednesday.  Join us tomorrow for Recon Thursday.  To discuss an online or onsite service engagement and enhance the marketing and branding for your organization, contact James Glover: (505) 501-1330 or onceadaymarketing@gmail.com.  I’m Jim Glover, That Branding Guy, for Once a Day Marketing™ and we’ll see you next time.

Does Your Logo Tell a Story? (Recon Thursday/Physical Evidence)

Hello, I’m Jim Glover, That Branding Guy for Once a Day Marketing™.  Today is Recon Thursday where I introduce subjects that may be of interest to you.  This week I am sharing a blog by Ray Vellest who talks about hidden meanings in logos.

Today more than ever logos are truly important in our branding because they are a visual queue.  As we view websites and other content on smaller and smaller devices such as smart phones, that logo may be the only thing that triggers a potential customer to recall your brand.

As we’ve discussed in previous blogs, your logo needs to memorable, distinctive and, if possible, tell a story related to your business.  According to Ray Vellest’s blog, it could include a hidden meaning as well.

In Ray’s blog he cites some great examples of hidden meanings in very recognizable logos.  The first is FedEx.  If you look closely, you will see an arrow formed by the E and the x.  In Baskin-Robbins ice cream logo, the font and color allow the B and the R to also depict the number 31, which relates to 31 flavors.

Then he mentions Sun Microsystems.  Their logo is comprised of numerous shapes that look like a “U”.  Upon closer examination, no matter which direction you look in it spells out s-u-n for Sun Microsystems.

When you look at the Amazon logo you will readily spot the smile underneath the word Amazon, but have you noticed it is also an arrow pointing from A to Z.  Vellest included the Tour de France logo as well.  Close attention will reveal a cyclist riding a bike within the logo.

Lastly he talks about Toblerone which is a chocolate company.  Their logo is a mountain.  But when you look carefully into the mountain you will also see a bear.  These are all clever examples of hidden messages within logos.

Adding a hidden meaning to your logo is a great addition but is not required.  Focus on making the logo memorable and distinctive and perhaps tell a story.  The new Once a Day Marketing™ logo is a checkmark.  The story behind it is to remind you to tick marked the fact that you did your marketing today.  As you revise your logo in the future consider how you can create a story or hidden message as well.

YouTube: A Great Way to be Seen (Digital Friday/Physical Evidence)

Hello, I’m Jim Glover, That Branding Guy, for Once a Day Marketing.  It’s Digital Friday and today I am going to talk about YouTube and why I am such a big fan of this amazing tool.

I’ve already discussed how important it is to be using video to market your business.  Remember, people love watching videos and there were one trillion views on YouTube last year.  That is a lot of people tuning in.

YouTube is great tool and there is no cost associated with using it.  You create a video and upload it.  It’s stored free of charge and, with the whole world tuning in to view videos; hopefully potential customers will find yours.  Once you have video stored on YouTube, you are able to send a link to customers and share your content with them directly.

Another compelling reason to have video content online is that search engines will return that content in search results.  When your business is found, through Google perhaps, your videos will be displayed.  If you have a series of videos such as Once a Day Marketing they will be displayed as well allowing people to view your message.

Using YouTube is easy.  First establish an account under your company name, brand name or something else that represents you well.  Then you will be able to create a YouTube channel where you can post all of the videos that you are going to produce and upload.  Videos may be designated as public or private.  Public will be shared with the world.  Private content may be a message you only want to share with your customers.

YouTube also has robust analytics.  They report who is viewing, how often and how long along with where viewers are located.  Metrics around sharing, commenting and likes are generated as well.  And best of all, this is being provided to you by YouTube at no cost.

It’s never been easier to share video than it is today leveraging the YouTube channel.  Give how essential it is to include video as a component of your branding, marketing and sales strategy, I strongly recommend you establish a YouTube account and begin using it today.

That concludes Digital Friday.  Join us next week for Smart Monday.  To discuss an online or face to face service engagement and enhance the marketing and branding for your organization, contact James Glover: (505) 501-1330 or onceadaymarketing@gmail.com.  I’m Jim Glover, That Branding Guy, for Once a Day Marketing and we’ll see you next time.
