Differentiating the Brand: Beals & Co Art Showroom

Hello, I’m Jim Glover, That Branding Guy, for Once a Day Marketing™. On our radio show That Branding Guy™, we discussed branding and marketing challenges of a Santa Fe gallery owner.

Joining us on the show was Bobby Beals, Founder of Beals & Co. He is a fine art dealer and art events coordinator representing painters, sculptors, and photographers in the southwest. As an award winning curator, Bobby works with resorts, fine dining restaurants and real estate partners to create luxury experiences collectors will remember.

Bobby currently works with about 25 artists. He keeps the number small to enable him to get to know each one personally to understand their talents and aspirations. Beals & Co. differentiates through offering quality connections between the art lover and the hard-working, talented artists on their roster.

Bobby has expanded his business to include sub-brands as well. The need to create the Santa Fe Exports sub-brand arose when Bobby began working outside of New Mexico and wanted to incorporate the name of Santa Fe due to the strong recognition as an arts community. In the future, he would like to move toward having his name associated with all of his sub-brands. Glover remarked that this was something that could be introduced slowly over time to ensure a smooth transition for customers.

Glover and Beals also discussed how print media fits into the marketing mix. That Branding Guy commented that print is still a viable channel for many businesses, however, consideration should be given to the objectives of the marketing campaign and who the target audience is.

To get the message out about the Beals & Co Showroom, Bobby focuses on social media. This radio show was broadcast to his followers live via Instagram. A first for That Branding Guy!

Branding the New Mexico Museum of Space History

Hello, I’m Jim Glover, That Branding Guy, for Once a Day Marketing™. On our radio show That Branding Guy™, we discussed branding and marketing with a New Mexico Museum.

Joining us on the show was Chris Orwoll – Executive Director of the New Mexico Museum of Space History. The museum is located in Alamogordo in the southern part of the state and has been celebrating New Mexico’s role in space history for 41 years. They are one of 15 divisions under the Department of Cultural Affairs.

The NM Museum of Space History boasts numerous indoor and outdoor exhibits as well as a movie theatre and planetarium. Their Hall of Fame includes astronauts, rocket scientists and even author Gene Roddenberry. The one thing in the museum that Chris advises everyone to see is the guidance system from the Apollo missions. The most popular attraction right now is the Star Trek exhibit which includes a model “transporter.”

To get the message out about the museum, they partner with NM Tourism Department TRUE campaign and engage their audience on social media via Twitter and a Facebook page. Museum visitation has been building and the next milestone goal is to reach 150,000 annually.

The museum visitors are mainly from out of state. To reach this geographically diverse group, Chris is a regular guest on the Science Channel program NASA’s Unexplained Files among many other television appearances. This earned media supplements the museums small advertising budget.

Chris reiterated how important customer experience is. All of the museum staff are well versed in providing outstanding customer service to ensure visitors have great time at the museum.

Talk about the "Why" of Your Brand

Hello, I’m Jim Glover, That Branding Guy, for Once a Day Marketing™. On our radio show That Branding Guy™, we discussed branding and marketing of a fund raising event.

Joining us on the show was artist David Copher who has been painting and sculpting in Santa Fe for 28 years. His work is on display at his gallery on Johnson Street near the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum. David is also a supporter of the small non-profit Santa Fe Need and Deed (SFNAD) whose mission is to serve the needs of the homeless in the community including support groups and food service.

Need and Deed’s annual Halloween fund raising event is coming up on Saturday, October 28, 2017 and is primarily organized by David. The Halloween party was originally created by David many years ago as an event to promote David’s own gallery and he has since aligned party with the Need and Deed organization.

The event has grown to over 400 attendees and will be held this year at the Courtyard by Marriott on Cerrillos Road. All proceeds benefit the Need and Deed organization.

With more space at the Courtyard by Marriott, guests will enjoy two live bands, a large dance floor and a costume contest. David crafts jewelry that is given away to costume winners. Tickets are available at the door at this 21 and over event.

To get the word out about the event, David focuses on publishing news on the Facebook site for his gallery – David Copher Gallery, it’s advertised on the Need and Deed Facebook site as well. Both pages feature a poster for the event has been created by a local artist. This year the event was also publicized through print and radio, raising awareness for both Need and Deed and the David Copher Gallery.

Glover suggested the organization take advantage of the large audience at the event and provide attendees an opportunity to donate to Need and Deed in addition to event admission. He also noted that it would increase effectiveness of their message if Need and Deed talked more about the Why behind their organization.
