Experience Your America (Inspiration)

Hello, I’m Jim Glover, That Branding Guy, for Once a Day Marketing™. Today we are looking at taglines and brandlines.

I am working with a client right now to develop a new tagline so taglines have been on my mind. I always pay attention to cleaver slogans; it's one of my hobbies.

With the Launch of the new NCAA football playoff system, ESPN recently released a tagline and campaign called "Who's In?" It's simple, easy to remember, fun and to the point. It is focused on who is going to make it to the playoffs, and for my money, brilliant.

Last week I spent time in Mesa Verde National Park, located near Four Corners in Colorado. As I was riding one of the park's trams, I noticed their tagline splashed on the side of the vehicle. It read: Experience Your America™. I smiled because this brandline, in my opinion, is right on the mark. I love our national parks and they truly are America's treasure. As the tagline suggests, they belong to every American to visit, explore and enjoy.

Today I have two recommendations for you. First, if you haven't experienced one of your national parks lately, plan a visit. You'll thank me for it.

Second, take a moment to review your tagline. Is it memorable, actionable, unique and does it reflect a benefit/value to your customer? Is it also available for copyright or trademark? If so, promote it to the best of your ability. If it seems a bit blasé, think about revising or modifying your slogan. If you don't have a brandline, now is great time to develop one.

PayPal: Creative Branding (Inspiration)

Hello, I’m Jim Glover, That Branding Guy, for Once a Day Marketing™. Today we are sharing a great example of inspired branding.

Recently I had the opportunity to stay in Phoenix, Arizona for a few days. Next to my hotel was a building for PayPal, an international e-commerce business allowing payments and money transfers to be made through the Internet.

As I was driving by the entrance to their building I couldn't help but smile. The name of the dedicated street that entered their site is One Payment Way. It's clear from this effort that management at PayPal understands that a brand is simply everything. This is brilliant branding and also reflects that the company has a sense of humor.

Every day commuters not only see the bold company name on the side of the building but also are consistently reminded of the services that PayPal performs.

As you continue to develop and enhance your brand think about clever ways that you can capture mindshare with your customers. Gain some inspiration from the PayPal initiative to name a road about the services they offer. Remember it's the little experiences you share that reflect your brand.

Disney: The Mouse That Roars (Inspiration)

Hello, I’m Jim Glover, That Branding Guy, for Once a Day Marketing™.  Today we are looking at The Walt Disney Company and why their brand continues to be loved by their fans.

The Walt Disney Company was selected by Yahoo Finance as the company of the year of 2013.  Intrabrand chose Disney as one of the best global brands, selecting it number one in the media category and number 14 in the world overall.  Lastly, Harris Interactive's 2013 Reputation Quotient Report ranked Disney number three among the most visible companies.

The reason for Disney's continued success is great leadership that keeps the Walt Disney vision alive and takes immense pride in all aspects of its brand.  The payoff is their customers, both children and adults alike, truly love the Disney experience and offerings including movies, theme parks, merchandise and more.

Disney understands that a brand is simply everything and works hard on all aspects of the 7Ps of Marketing.  Their acquisition of Pixar Studios and Lucasfilm and its Star Wars franchise demonstrates deep commitment to providing magical film and digital entertainment products in the future.

Disney's ongoing renovation to its theme parks during a major recession conveys commitment to providing a memorable experience for all visitors to the Magic Kingdom.  The company had record park attendance during 2013.

There's nothing mickey mouse about the products Disney makes available to its loyal fans and the experiences it generates as well.  Keep Disney's approach in mind as you develop your brand vision.  In your own way, your brand can be magical too
