Clearly Effective Municipal Branding Campaign (Strategy)

Hello, I’m Jim Glover, That Branding Guy, for Once a Day Marketing™. Today we are discussing how municipalities can improve customer experience while achieving their goals.

Several years ago, the City of Las Vegas, New Mexico was in the position of having to dramatically increase water usage fees in support of efforts to upgrade existing infrastructure. I was engaged by the City of Las Vegas to develop a branding campaign and community outreach program sharing with residents and business how increased water rates were being used in building a sustainable water system for the community.

The program, entitled “Our Future is Clear,” was designed to ensure that residents and businesses in Las Vegas were apprised of the action the City was taking to ensure that Las Vegas has a long-term, sustainable water supply.

The campaign was launched via Our Future is Clear stickers in utilities bills and include signage around town to highlight water program successes, a formal outreach program, and new contemporary report on water engineering reports.

The program was a resounding success and favorably changed community attitudes about water rate increases and usages of these funds.

Buzzing About The Celestial Bee Brand (Strategy)

Listen to our featured Ask Those Branding Guys radio show podcast: The Celestial Bee

Hello, I’m Jim Glover, That Branding Guy, for Once a Day Marketing™. On our radio show Ask Those Branding Guys, we discussed branding and marketing of a unique Santa Fe wellness business.

Joining us on-air was Lauren Kendall – practitioner and owner of The Celestial Bee, offering the therapeutic and healing benefits of bee venom therapy; which is especially effective for Lyme disease, arthritis, and nerve-related illnesses. Lauren also keeps bees in hives across 3 different yards in the Santa Fe area.

Lauren became interested in bees and bee therapy when she was farming on the east coast and contracted Lyme disease.  On a trip through Santa Fe she found herself in a bee yard as was stung by a honey bee.  After that she noticed the symptoms of her Lyme disease began to improve.  This piqued her interest in bee venom therapy and lead to her becoming a Hoshindo practitioner.

In addition to her practice, Lauren runs a 2-acre farm and farmer’s market at the Arroyo Vino restaurant where she also keeps some of her bees.  The farm produces much of the produce for the restaurant and is part of Lauren’s effort to improve the health of the bee population.  The Celestial Bee has a line of bee related products for clients, which are available at the farmers market and the Hive Market in Santa Fe.

The Celestial Bee clients are mainly people suffering from Lyme disease who have heard about Lauren via word of mouth and sought her out. One of Lauren’s branding challenges is ensuring customers believe in the treatment and trust the process.

Lauren is in the now making changes to reshape her brand and tap into the national market for her services.  She plans to increase outbound content on her website and Facebook and Instagram sites.
Those Branding Guys shared the ideas of incorporating the plight of the bees as a socially-conscious element of her business as well as creating a regular blog.  Lauren’s goal is to eventually take the business to an international level.

Enjoy the show.

Set Your Brand Apart with Great C/X

Hello, I’m Jim Glover, That Branding Guy, for Once a Day Marketing™. Today we are discussing how great customer service can differentiate a brand.

I recently came across an older blog, which I have seen many times.  It highlights advice from Sir Richard Branson about customer service and how it can be a great differentiator for a brand. Branson’s advice is not extravagant; just common sense that can be executed by any business.  Implementing these concepts for your business can go a long way to setting your brand apart from the competition.

Branson’s Advice:
1) Set realistic customer expectations then don’t just meet them, exceed them.

2) Hire wonderful people who believe in your company goals, let their ideas be heard and respected, and give them freedom to help solve problems for your customers.

3) Managers and executives must be on their guard and respond quickly to problems. When issues turn up, a company's response can have a big impact on its reputation and long-term success.

4) Creating a favorable impression at the first point of contact is an absolute imperative. But what isn't widely understood is that the 2nd impression can be even more important than the first.

5) For a brand, customer service is everything in the end.

Thanks to Sir Richard Branson and Tricia Morris for sharing these pearls of wisdom regarding customer service. Keep in mind that customer service doesn't have to be an expensive proposition for a brand. It just has to be a major component in the culture of the company.

Branding the Museum of New Mexico Foundation (Strategy)

Listen to our featured Ask Those Branding Guys radio show podcast: the Museum of New Mexico Foundation

Hello, I’m Jim Glover, That Branding Guy, for Once a Day Marketing™. On our radio show Ask Those Branding Guys, we discussed branding and marketing of a foundation that supports the State of New Mexico museums.

Joining us on-air was Jamie Clements, President and CEO of the Museum of New Mexico Foundation (MNMF).  Founded in 1962, the Foundation’s mission is to support the museum system of New Mexico through funding for exhibitions and education programs, financial management and advocacy.

MNMF manages all of the museums shops in the New Mexico museum system including The New Mexico Museum of Art, NM History Museum/Palace of the Governors, Museum of International Folk Art and the Museum of Indian Art and Culture.

The audience for the Museum of NM Foundation includes 350,000 annual museum visitors; 70% of the visitors to the State museums in Santa Fe are from out of state.

To support the Foundation’s efforts to provide funding to the wonderful New Mexico museums, individuals are encouraged to become members and enjoy exclusive benefits related to museum and historic site offerings in one of the four different levels of membership.

The MNMF marketing message is that without their work the museums would not be able to keep their doors open for visitors to enjoy all of the fabulous collections and exhibits.

From a marketing perspective, MNMF leverage print advertising and direct marketing, both mail and telephone. Membership is also promoted in the museums shops.  Jamie shared that word of mouth is one of the most powerful forms of advertising.  MNMF is using social media to complement the other marketing efforts rather than as a fund raising mechanism.

Jamie is exploring how to use social media and crowd funding campaigns to tap into new sources to raise funds.  Those Branding Guys suggest that he create a unique hashtag to raise awareness for the Museum of New Mexico Foundation.  With the 100th anniversary of New Mexico Museums in 2017, this idea has great possibilities.

Enjoy the show.
