Branding Novelist Anne Hillerman (Strategy)

Listen to our featured Ask Those Branding Guys™ radio show podcast: Novelist Anne Hillerman

Hello, I’m Jim Glover, That Branding Guy, for Once a Day Marketing™. On our radio show Ask Those Branding Guys™, we discussed branding strategy with a well know author.

Joining us on the show was author Anne Hillerman talking about her latest book, Rock With Wings.  Anne is the daughter of best-selling author Tony Hillerman; she is continuing her late father’s writing and bringing back some of his most popular characters with her own flavor.

Anne was inspired to continue with her Dad’s series due to demand from readers for more stories.  Her first book, Spider Woman’s Daughter, was published in October 2013.  Anne felt that fans gave her the benefit of the doubt with Spider Woman’s Daughter, which did very well.  Rock With Wings has also met with success and was on the NYT Bestseller list for three weeks.

Anne shared a great story about how the new novel was named.  After struggling for some time to find just the right title, Anne shared the dilemma with her mother.  Having extensive experience editing the Tony Hillerman novels, Anne’s mom suggest Rock With Wings.  The name was a great fit for the story set in the Shiprock, NM area; it is the literal translation of the Navajo name for the rock outcropping.

To promote her books, Anne has partnered with groups to make appearances at benefits and fund raisers.  She enjoys having the opportunity to meet and speak directly with her fans.

Anne shared a tip to aspiring authors; make sure whatever you are writing is the best is can be because you only get that one chance to make a first impression.  If it is not favorable, it will impact the success of your future work.

Enjoy the podcast.

Give Customers a Reason for a Return Visit (Strategy)

Hello, I’m Jim Glover, That Branding Guy, for Once a Day Marketing™. Today we are discussing how to keep customers coming back again and again.

Consumers have many choices when they are seeking a product or service.  Keeping your brand top of mind with existing customers when they are ready to make a purchase is the key to sales and success.

There are numerous ways to drive repeat business including coupons, sales and loyalty programs.  However, you should consider more creative ways to encourage customers to think of your brand and entice them to re-engage such as special events and exclusive offers.

Based on your type of business you may:
·         Hold a paper shredding event
·         Have giveaways on special days such as National Doughnut Day
·         Offer a special food item like Burger of the Month
·         Design an exclusive offer for customers who follow you in social media
·         Provide a free check-up service for a car or computer

When you launch a campaign, be prepared to deliver on the brand promise and make a great impression on the customers who respond.  This will generate additional goodwill, business and referrals.

Branding a New Mexico Lake Community (Strategy)

Listen to our featured Ask Those Branding Guys™ radio show podcast: City of Natural Lakes Santa Rosa New Mexico

Hello, I’m Jim Glover, That Branding Guy, for Once a Day Marketing™. On our radio show Ask Those Branding Guys™, we discussed branding strategy for a New Mexico community.

Joining us on the show was Tim Dodge, City Manager of Santa Rosa New Mexico, the city of natural lakes.  Santa Rosa is located on the eastern plains of New Mexico off I-40, about an hour and half from Albuquerque and Santa Fe.  It is a unique community known for an abundance of natural lakes and other water features.  The Blue Hole is the dive capital of the southwest due to its 81’ depth and crystal clear water.  There is also a fish hatchery in the city along with excellent fishing spots.

The City of Santa Rosa has been working to revitalize their brand.  The City would like to be perceived as an active, healthy community of lakes & rivers and a great place for recreation.  With the recent rain, water levels are higher than they have been in recent years and record numbers of boaters are enjoying the lakes and other amenities.

WIBIT is the latest attraction to come to Santa Rosa.  WIBIT is an amazing inflatable obstacle course floating on Park Lake; it has walls to climb, swings and slides.  Route 66 runs through Santa Rosa and offers an auto museum, hotels, and restaurants.  This coming weekend the City is hosting a 3 on 3 basketball tournament called Hoop it Up and a craft fair with live music.

Right now Santa Rosa is focused on promoting the city’s water features.  Keeping the customer experience they deliver top of mind, they want to ensure capability to provide a great experience for all visitors is not compromised.

Tim shared that Santa Rosa will be participating in the New Mexico True campaign to continue driving the message of the Santa Rosa brand.  Filming for the commercial sequences is taking place in the city today.

Enjoy the show.

Collaborate and Grow Your Brand (Strategy)

Hello, I’m Jim Glover, That Branding Guy, for Once a Day Marketing™. Today we are discussing why collaborative partnerships are good for your brand.

The expansion of technology usage for all businesses is resulting in two important changes that you should consider with respect to your brand.  The size of your potential market continues to increase and, businesses are more transparent that ever before.

In this environment, forming collaborative partnerships with another provider of products or services can be a great way to expand the reach of your brand.  Identify other businesses that may be a good fit.  Focus on potential partners that have experience in areas you don’t such as marketing knowledge, physical locations, access to different markets or other complementary skill sets.

Once you have identified someone you would like to collaborate with, arrange a pilot project to determine if you are well suited to working together and you are attaining the results you expect.

This approach has worked well for Apple teaming up with Nike to offer Nike+ software on iPhones and iPods.

Consider the possibilities for your brand.
