No Caspers Allowed: Be Very Visible (Digital Friday/Physical Evidence 1-6-12)

Hello everybody, this is Jim Glover, That Branding Guy, for Once a Day Marketing, where business takes shape.  Thanks for tuning in.  I don’t know if this is your first day or fifth day but we are finishing our inaugural week of Once a Day Marketing.  So if you’ve missed any of our blogs, go back and check them out.  I encourage you to bookmark us and watch us whenever you can.

Today is Digital Friday and this is where we help you identify the best social media strategies for targeting your customers.  In today’s world there are a million different directions to go with social media, and probably by the end of this blog there will be two million.  You don’t have enough time to keep up on everything.  Our goal is to distill relevant information and provide you with strategies and tactics to use in social media marketing that will work for you to identify and reach your best customers.

Today’s segment we are calling: “No Caspers Allowed: Be Very Visible.”  Now Casper’s great and a friendly ghost but on the Internet that’s the last thing you want to be.  You want to be as visible as humanly possible, and that’s what we are going to talk about today.

In the digital world it’s not good to be invisible.  On the Internet you want to be very, very visible.  So how do you know if you are very visible?  There are numerous search engines out there. Google, Yahoo, AOL, Bing, DuckDuckGo, and Excite to name just a few.  What I would like you to do is go out and bookmark some of them.  Then use them to search yourself, your company, your products and your brands.  That’s what we are going to talk about next but the first thing I want you to do is to compile that list of search engines that you like.

Now that you have your list of various search engines to use I want you to create another list.  I want that list to be comprised of your name, your company name, your product names, perhaps words and terminology you use to describe your products, maybe even the name of your competitor and their products.  Then enter those into the search engines one at a time and do some tests, see what pops up.  Are you filling up page one with everything or are you somewhere off in the abyss?  With each search grab a screen print or print the page and stick it in a folder.  As you continue to do this search over time hopefully you’ll start seeing yourself appearing in these search engines a lot more.

You did your research.  What did you find?  If you found yourself out there in many places using these search engines, congratulations, you are anything but Casper.  Now if you are a bit of a Casper and you’re not seeing yourself as much as you like, don’t worry about it, we will talk about techniques on becoming more visible on these search engines in the future.  What we are creating here is a benchmark so that as you progress and do more digital marketing, you’re going to be able to keep coming back to these search engines and find out if you are becoming more visible.  And that’s our goal.  I believe that if you follow our tips here at Once a Day Marketing, your business will become more visible on the Internet.  Customers will find you, and potentially do business with you.
