Brand Inspires Girls to be Strong, Smart and Bold (Strategy)

Listen to our featured Ask Those Branding Guys radio show podcast: Girls Inc. of Santa Fe

Hello, I’m Jim Glover, That Branding Guy, for Once a Day Marketing™. On our radio show Ask Those Branding Guys, we discussed branding and marketing with a Santa Fe Non-profit.

Joining us on-air was Kim Brown, President/CEO of Girls Inc., a 501 (c)(3) organization whose mission is to inspire girls to be Strong, Smart and Bold for the past 60 years. They provide girls throughout Santa Fe with life-changing experiences and real solutions to the unique issues they face.

Programming, people and environment is what sets Girls Inc. apart. They offer after school and summer camp programs built around science, math and art topics. Older students can experience outdoor adventures as well. Kim’s favorite program is the foundational core value of teaching girls to be themselves.

The Santa Fe community provides 80% of the support for the organization through grants and other mechanisms. The Girls Inc. 46th annual Arts & Crafts show is one of two annual fund raisers. 175 artists from across the county will be exhibiting at the show on the Santa Fe Plaza August 5-6, 2017. 250 volunteers assist in making the event a great experience for vendors and attendees.

On a national level, Girl Inc. has offices in New York, Washington DC and Indianapolis where they do lobbying and research & development for programs that are offered by chapters across the country. Content and teaching style has evolved over the years to reflect social trends and changes.

Awareness of Girls Inc. is not as high as the organization would like. Kim shared that less than half of the people she encounters are aware of Girls Inc. and their contributions to the community.

To get their message out, Girls Inc. uses print ads, social media and conducts tours for individuals who are interested in learning more about the organization. To publicize the show, Those Branding Guys suggested sharing information about Girls Inc. with attendees in a clever way to make them aware of the organization and mission.

Listen to our featured Ask Those Branding Guys radio show podcast: Pi Luna Press Learning that makes Sense

Hello, I’m Jim Glover, That Branding Guy, for Once a Day Marketing™. On our radio show Ask Those Branding Guys, we discussed branding and marketing with a new company.

Joining us on-air was Pi Luna, Founder of Pi Luna Press, a new brand focused on financial education. Pi noticed that many people have trouble with math and she brings math and art together in a unique educational style to teach finance and budgeting concepts in a fresh, innovative way. Her model includes using stories of characters with real-life issue and clients have to learn skills to solve the characters’ challenge.

The target audience for Pi’s expertise is people who need assistance with understanding financial theories including artists and other creative individuals. She explains budgeting and other processes in a fun way that is easy to understand.

Pi’s finds new clients through referrals and networking events. She has facilitated workshops for groups including the Santa Fe Chamber of Commerce, WESST and Meow Wolf. That Branding Guy encouraged Pi to expand on her relationships with existing clients to seek opportunities for new business.

To enhance her offerings, Pi is exploring production of educational videos. Glover mentioned that her website would be a great place to share that her workshops are a fun and entertaining learning experience.

Pi’s biggest branding challenge is overcoming people’s fear of finance and math. Those Branding Guys recommended a short video to tell the story of her methodology and how much fun it is to learn math and finances.

Great Images Enhance Your Brand (Strategy)

Listen to our featured Ask Those Branding Guys radio show podcast: Great Images Enhance Your Brand

Hello, I’m Jim Glover, That Branding Guy, for Once a Day Marketing™. On our radio show Ask Those Branding Guys, we discussed how to boost your brand with great images.

Joining us on-air was Daniel Quat – owner of Daniel Quat Photography. He has been taking both commercial photos and portraits for over 40 years.

Glover shared that it is extremely important for brands to ensure they are using high-end images for all of their needs including advertising, marketing material and online images.

Daniel commented that in his experience, just taking a snap shot is communicating what happened at that moment. A professional photographer will work with you and identify your goals and will capture the essence you want to project in the photos he takes. Images should reflect the emotion of what the brand wants to convey. This applies to product photos as well as portraits.

From a technical perspective, business owners should understand there is more to a photo than just point and click. Images should be effectively lit, in front of an appropriate background and composed properly to ensure you are creating a great presentation for your brand.

Business owners should ensure they are aware of the image resolution required for advertising. Just because it looks great on your PC or phone, does not mean it is adequate for printing purposes. High quality printing general requires a file size of approximately 20MB. If you are not sure you have sufficient size files, ask your printing professional.

When it comes to social media, the rules are the same. It is not a good idea for any business to post images that don’t reflect the brand in the best light. Social media applications all have the ability to enhance brightness, color and composition of images and are easy to learn.

Daniel’s tip - when you are looking for a photographer, price should not be the first consideration. Review portfolios on photographers’ websites; once you identify an artist whose work you like, give them a call and determine whether they are someone you feel is a good fit to work with.
