Social Media Marketing Tips from an Expert (Strategy)

Listen to our featured Ask Those Branding Guys radio show podcast: Jan Zimmerman - Social Media Marketing for Dummies

Hello, I’m Jim Glover, That Branding Guy, for Once a Day Marketing™.  On our radio show Ask Those Branding Guys, we discussed web marketing with an expert and author of a new book.

Joining us on-air was Jan Zimmerman author of numerous books related to online marketing including her latest, the updated version of Social Media Marketing All in One for Dummies.  Jan started her career in web marketing in 1998 and has been there throughout the many transitions that have happened since.

In addition to practical marketing information, the All in One series encompasses creating a marketing plan, market research and budgeting for getting your message out.  Jan’s philosophy is that social media is only part of online marketing and online marketing is just one component of overall marketing for your business. She advises businesses not to focus on a single aspect.

Social media marketing does take effort. Jan shared that businesses should expect to spend two hours per week on each channel to be successful.  One way a business can use social media is for testing advertising concepts prior to pushing them out in traditional, more expensive channels.  Feedback can be obtained quickly from your target audience.

When it comes to social media many businesses are concerned about engaging with customers and potential negative response.  Jan’s view is that this is no different than customers sharing their experience in the past – it just happens more quickly.  Social media is an opportunity not only to reach your audience but to showcase great customer experiences and how you respond to customer needs.  It is also a great forum to ask customers questions and learn more about how you can improve your product or service.

Jan’s tip for social media marketing success – ensure you use the tremendous market research and analytics that are available from the social media platform.

Equus: Branding a Unique Leadership Experience (Strategy)

Listen to our featured Ask Those Branding Guys radio show podcast: Equus Santa Fe

Hello, I’m Jim Glover, That Branding Guy, for Once a Day Marketing™. On our radio show Ask Those Branding Guys, we discussed branding and marketing of a Santa Fe leadership consultancy.

Joining us on-air were Kelly Wendorf – Founder and CEO of Equus and Scott Strachan – Chief Visionary Officer. Equus is a consulting firm offering an innovative, experiential self-mastery and leadership development approach for individuals and organizations. They assist people in accessing wisdom to solve their challenges differently and live more meaningful lives.

The Equus 11-acre campus is located just north of Santa Fe next to the Four Seasons Resort Rancho Encantado. The property was once owned by sculptor Veryl Goodnight who used buffalo as her model.

In their programs Equus partners with people through various types of experiences; one of their most powerful is an equine encounter. Glover commented that being known for such a unique offering may be a good way to stand out from the competition.

One target market of Equus is C-Suite influencers at large corporations to better enable them to connect with their teams and families. Equus also focuses on entrepreneurs and people in a life transition who are seeking a vision of what they want to do and overcome obstacles to move forward.

The marketing approach for Equus includes PR. Forbes recently published a piece about the company that grew out of a New Mexico Tourism Department contact who had a wonderful experience at Equus and was able to connect Kelly & Scott with Forbes. This earned media has resulted in additional visits and coverage. Glover noted that generating goodwill and ambassadors is essential for all brands.

Kelly shared her tip that one of the keys to successful media coverage is to be prepared with tools to guide interviews such as informational materials, images and FAQs.

Branding New Mexico's Living History (Strategy)

Listen to our featured Ask Those Branding Guys radio show podcast: El Rancho De Las Golondrinas

Hello, I’m Jim Glover, That Branding Guy, for Once a Day Marketing™. On our radio show Ask Those Branding Guys, we discussed branding and marketing of a living history museum.

Joining us on-air were Vic Macias and Dan Goodman – Manager of Special Events and Director of Education, respectively, for El Rancho De Las Golondrians. Opened in 1972, Las Golondrinas is a living history museum devoted to inspiring learning about the history, heritage and culture of 18th and 19th century New Mexico.

Located on 200 acres in a valley south of Santa Fe, Las Golondrinas boasts original colonial buildings dating from the early 1700s. Historic buildings from other parts of northern New Mexico have also been reconstructed at Las Golondrinas and are part of an immersive, multisensory, family-friendly experience.

Ten special events throughout the year engage visitors to look into the celebrations, music, dance and many other aspects of life in the Spanish, Mexican and Territorial periods of the Southwest. Spring events include the Spring & Fiber Fest and Lavender Festival. At Las Golondrinas some events are well established while the Food Festival and Spirits of New Mexico’s Past are new. They are constantly improving and adding new offerings to keep the brand fresh.

To attract local visitors Las Golondrinas focuses on print ads in local newspapers and magazines. They have a presence on Facebook and Instagram as well as a blog. The museum has also recently been profiled on New Mexico True television. To reach potential visitor outside of New Mexico they work closely with the New Mexico Tourism Department, have and also leverage Yelp and Trip Advisor.

The messaging Las Golondrinas shares is about the immersive experience while staying true to their brand.
